Hewan (pronounced: Hey-wan) is an Ethiopian-American singer-songwriter from the Bay who grew up in a glass box. In 2011, she shattered that box with two words – “I quit.” Hewan left her promising job at a FORTUNE 100 company to move to LA and pursue a new career, music.
Immediately, Hewan began studying songwriting at The Songwriting School of LA, which is were she honed her craft and explored her single string guitar writing technique. In October 2013, Hewan released her debut single, “This Job Sucks.” The song was picked up by American Airlines’ (AA) “Hit List” Station in October 2013 and was played in every AA flight for that month.
Summer 2014, Hewan released her first EP called “When the Music Stops Playing,” which is a diverse collection of alternative r&b songs that exude Hewan’s positive message of courage and patience.
She is currently spreading that message of courage with her high school tour called “Get Out The Bleachers.” Hewan is also working on her next project which will be released summer 2015.
